She attended the event with her husband, NFL star Jonathan Owens, both wearing coordinated lilac outfits. Biles wore a lilac strapless minidress with purple rhinestones, paired with a fascinator and silver heels, while Owens matched in a lilac jacket and rhinestone-studded cap.

The couple’s coordinated look sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising their confidence and others criticizing Biles’ short dress for being inappropriate for the event. Despite the criticism, many admired Biles’ daring style, calling her “classy and stunning.”

In addition to her fashion moment, Biles also took part in the Derby’s traditions, delivering the iconic “Riders Up” call to the jockeys. Her involvement in the event, alongside her recognition as one of TIME’s 100 most influential people of 2025, further solidified her status as a major cultural figure. Tragically, on May 4, Braun was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver, 33-year-old Jenia Belt, in Manhattan Beach. Braun was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The loss is devastating for his family, who has now lost both their home and their son in just five months.

At Loyola High School, Braun was a standout athlete, a four-year Varsity tennis player, and a beloved leader in his community. He was known for his humility, work ethic, and infectious smile. His school and the entire community are mourning his untimely death.

Braun’s legacy as a compassionate and driven young man will be remembered long after his years. Instead of celebrating his graduation, his family and community are now planning a memorial.

In 1960, Jim Reeves released “He’ll Have to Go,” a smooth, emotional ballad that bridged country and pop like never before. With velvet vocals and polished production, the song became a cultural phenomenon, turning Reeves into a global star and redefining the Nashville Sound.Written by Joe and Audrey Allison, the song was inspired by a real-life phone call overheard in a bar—its heartfelt opening line, “Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone,” captured universal emotions of love and longing. Produced by Chet Atkins, the minimal orchestration allowed Jim’s voice to shine, helping the track top the country charts and reach #2 on the pop charts.

The success of “He’ll Have to Go” marked a turning point in country music, proving it could be both emotional and mainstream. The song was covered by legends like Elvis Presley, but Jim’s version remains iconic.Tragically, Reeves died in a plane crash in 1964 at just 40, but his legacy lives on. Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, his influence is still felt today through artists who blend country with pop. “He’ll Have to Go” isn’t just a song — it’s a timeless classic that helped reshape country music for generations.

Pope Leo loves sports: These are the teams he roots for https://legendhorizon.com/pope-leo-loves-sports-these-are-the-teams-he-roots-for/ https://legendhorizon.com/pope-leo-loves-sports-these-are-the-teams-he-roots-for/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 19:06:38 +0000 https://legendhorizon.com/?p=10893 [...]]]> As the world welcomed its first American pope, one burning question had Chicagoans buzzing: Cubs or Sox?

Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, grew up in a house divided. Born in Bronzeville and raised in the south suburbs, his mother was a devout Cubs fan from Chicago’s North Side. His father? A St. Louis Cardinals loyalist.

But according to his brother, John Prevost, the new pontiff made his own choice early on — and it wasn’t the Cubs.

“Whoever said Cubs on the radio got it wrong,” John told WGN. “It’s Sox. He was never, ever a Cubs fan.”

Pope Leo XIV has two brothers, Louis and John. Louis, a military veteran, lives in Florida, while John — who just settled the debate about the Pope’s baseball loyalties — previously served as a Catholic school principal.

So, while the pontiff now leads 1.4 billion Catholics around the world, it’s clear his allegiance on the diamond has always been crystal clear.

He’s a South Sider at heart.

The revelation about Pope Leo’s favorite team sent shockwaves through social media, especially after the Chicago Cubs quickly tried to claim the newly elected pope as one of their own.

Within hours of his historic appointment, the team posted a tribute online, referencing the legendary call from broadcaster Harry Caray: “The good Lord wants the Cubs to win!”

“Family always knows best”

But the South Side had the last laugh.

The White Sox wasted no time embracing their holy connection, sending a team jersey and cap directly to the Vatican.

“Family always knows best,” the team told NBC Chicago. “And it sounds like Pope Leo XIV’s lifelong fandom falls a little closer to 35th and Shields. Some things are bigger than baseball, but in this case, we’re glad to have a White Sox fan represented at the Vatican.”

Sports loyalties

Pope Leo spent his early years in the suburb of Dolton and regularly attended mass at St. Mary of the Assumption, located on the city’s Far Southeast Side, according to the Sun-Times.

At a press conference held Thursday, Sister Barbara Reid, president of the Catholic Theological Union where Prevost once studied, praised his character: “He’s an extraordinary person with a very keen intellect, a heart as big as the whole world, especially for the people who most are on the margins.”

But even though Pope Leo has spent much of his adult life serving the Church abroad, particularly in Peru, he’s never lost touch with his Windy City roots — or his sports loyalties.

Pope’s favorite soccer team

A 1977 graduate of Villanova University, Pope Leo has long held a passion for sports. Before rising to the papacy, Robert Prevost showed his South Side loyalty by attending the 2005 World Series at Guaranteed Rate Field to cheer on the Chicago White Sox.

Beyond baseball, Prevost has a passion for tennis, calling himself a casual player.

In a 2023 interview, he even admitted to being an amateur tennis enthusiast. “Since leaving Peru I have had few occasions to practice, so I am looking forward to getting back on the court,” he said. “Not that this new job has left me much free time for it so far.”

Pope Leo is also a longtime supporter of Alianza Lima, a popular soccer club in Peru, according to reports.

Tragic Discovery: Little Girl Found Alive With Deceased Family — Her Shocking Survival Method Revealed https://legendhorizon.com/tragic-discovery-little-girl-found-alive-with-deceased-family-her-shocking-survival-method-revealed/ https://legendhorizon.com/tragic-discovery-little-girl-found-alive-with-deceased-family-her-shocking-survival-method-revealed/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 18:20:48 +0000 https://legendhorizon.com/?p=10889 [...]]]> After living on a single food item, a four-year-old child was discovered trapped alive in her own New York house.

On Friday, May 2, the girl’s mother, Lisa Cotton, 38, was discovered dead at their house when her oldest daughter, who was worried, went to the Bronx flat to see how her family was doing.

The woman’s landlord had called Lisa’s father, 71-year-old Hubert Cotton, to enquire as to whether Lisa had left the house.

“I had been trying to call her for days and she never answered. I figured she didn’t answer me because she didn’t want me to talk to me,” he told The New York Post.

The terrible discovery was made by Lisa’s oldest daughter, as paramedics pronounced eight-year-old Nazir Millien and his mother Lisa dead at the spot.

“When she came in, [Nazir] was slumped over,” Cotton told the New York Post. Lisa’s daughter then apparently went looking for her mother only to find four-year-old Promise ‘feeding herself with chocolate’ on her mother’s bed.

“She picked her up and ran out and called the police,” Cotton continued.

The New York Post obtained a transcript of the 911 call in which Lisa’s daughter said that Nazir’s body had “bugs crawling on it.”

Promise was sent to a nearby hospital in a stable state, however she was later released and is currently living with her grandfather.

It makes sense that the recent occurrences have disturbed the young girl.

Speaking of his granddaughter, Cotton said, “She hasn’t said anything. She’s a baby. She looks at me sometimes, you know? Like she knows something.”

“We don’t know anything, we’re trying to find out.”

Although neighbours reported to authorities that they hadn’t seen Lisa in more than two weeks, a police source told The New York Post that there was no reason to be alarmed because there didn’t seem to be any odours or evidence of a break-in.

“[The police] said they’d be back in a few days. One of the social workers said she was trying to get a court order to have the door broken in,” a neighbor said.

Eric Perez, who lives upstairs, added: “The landlord hadn’t done wellness checks, people had called, neighbors called. It just smells like rat infested… the exterminator said the same thing — the smell is similar to rats and even death.”

In the meantime, Hubert must cope with the loss of both his daughter and grandchild in addition to planning the funerals.
He added, “I’m sorry. Two of them. How am I going to get the money? To bury both of them?”
How Lisa, who had asthma, and her son passed away is still a mystery. The police are still looking into it.

US Supreme Court greenlights Trump’s military trans ban https://legendhorizon.com/us-supreme-court-greenlights-trumps-military-trans-ban/ https://legendhorizon.com/us-supreme-court-greenlights-trumps-military-trans-ban/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 17:20:34 +0000 https://legendhorizon.com/?p=10887 [...]]]> Trump has been enacting a lot of things he had promised his voters recently. The most recent act has been his plan to ban transgender people from the military.

There has been a lot of disagreement with the executive order, especially as it goes into effect.

Keep reading to learn more about his plans regarding this.

A week after Donald Trump took his oath as the 47th President of the United States, he signed an executive order titled, ‘Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness’.

The policy aimed to ban transgender people from enlisting in the military forces and required current service members who identify as transgender to be removed from their roles.

Two national LGBTQ legal organizations, LGBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, responded to the order with a lawsuit. In March, the order was blocked US District Judge Ana Reyes, of Washington, D.C.

However, on May 6, 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration, saying they could enact the policy even with the legal proceedings ongoing.

The order says ‘pursuit of military excellence’ is being ‘diluted’ in order to ‘accommodate political agendas or other ideologies’.

It claims that the ‘adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual’s sex conflicts with a soldier’s commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle’.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of six active-duty trans service members and two trans people seeking to enlist. It argued that the ban ‘reflects animosity toward transgender people because of their transgender status’.

When the order was blocked in March by US District Judge Reyes, they argued that it violated an equal protection clause as it discriminated based on transgender status and sex. It also argued that the language used was ‘unabashedly demeaning’ and that the ‘policy stigmatizes transgender persons as inherently unfit’ with its ‘conclusions bear[ing] no relation to fact’.

He argued that the government could have made a policy that balanced ‘the Nation’s need for a prepared military and Americans’ right to equal protection’, and also noted that there is still time to do so.

She went on to highlight her points, by saying, “The Military Ban, however, is not that policy. The Court therefore must act to uphold the equal protection rights that the military defends every day.”

However, since then, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Trump’s government. The unsigned order came earlier, with the three liberal judges noting that they disagreed with it.

Human rights organizations have been vocal about their disapproval.

Lambda Legal and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation issued a statement that said, “By allowing this discriminatory ban to take effect while our challenge continues, the Court has temporarily sanctioned a policy that has nothing to do with military readiness and everything to do with prejudice.”

It went on, “Transgender individuals meet the same standards and demonstrate the same values as all who serve. We remain steadfast in our belief that this ban violates constitutional guarantees of equal protection and will ultimately be struck down.”

Prince Harry Shares Why He Still Hopes To Rebuild Ties With The Royal Family https://legendhorizon.com/prince-harry-shares-why-he-still-hopes-to-rebuild-ties-with-the-royal-family/ https://legendhorizon.com/prince-harry-shares-why-he-still-hopes-to-rebuild-ties-with-the-royal-family/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 13:52:59 +0000 https://legendhorizon.com/?p=10880 [...]]]> Prince Harry has expressed his desire for reconciliation with his family but maintains that it requires mutual compromise. In a recent BBC interview, he reflected on his strained relationship with the royal family, citing his loss of security as a major point of contention. Harry said that his father, King Charles, won’t speak to him due to the security issue, and this has hindered any potential reconciliation. He also mentioned that the UK court’s decision to deny his appeal for royal protection has made it impossible for him to return to the UK with his wife and children, emphasizing the personal toll it has taken.

Harry revealed that the decision to revoke his security in 2020 was a significant blow, and he still feels that his family should have prioritized his safety. Despite this, he expressed a hope for reconciliation, saying it would be nice if his family were open to it, but added that he wouldn’t force it if they weren’t willing.

His legal battles over security have caused public frustration, with many questioning why he demands taxpayer-funded protection when he no longer performs royal duties. Harry’s relationship with both the public and the royal institution remains tense, further complicating his desire to return to the UK.

Kennedy Jr. has agreed to his wife Cheryl Hines’ demand to move to Washington, D.C., purchasing a $4.34 million townhouse in Georgetown. The move follows allegations of inappropriate communication between Kennedy and journalist Olivia Nuzzi, which put strain on their marriage.

The 4,876-square-foot home offers luxury features and is just 15 minutes from the White House. According to MEAWW News, Hines was firm in her request, giving Kennedy an ultimatum to relocate or “face the wrath of God.” Kennedy reportedly replied that she could handle the real estate while he focused on national health matters.

Given Kennedy’s past infidelity, the relocation is seen as an effort to rebuild trust. Hines also feels that living in Georgetown connects her more closely to the Kennedy legacy.

Major Victory for Fairness: Riley Gaines Secures $50 Million Lawsuit Win Against NCAA https://legendhorizon.com/major-victory-for-fairness-riley-gaines-secures-50-million-lawsuit-win-against-ncaa/ https://legendhorizon.com/major-victory-for-fairness-riley-gaines-secures-50-million-lawsuit-win-against-ncaa/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 00:57:22 +0000 https://legendhorizon.com/?p=10875 [...]]]> Swimmer Riley Gaies has won her lawsuit against the NCAA in a heart-stopping court battle that has drawn attention from the sports community. For both the athlete and others who object to what they perceive to be an overabundance of wokeness in sports, Gaies’ $50 million compensation for what she views as an unjust medal distribution is noteworthy.

The dispute stems from Gaie’s claim that the NCAA improperly awarded gold to Lia Thomas, a conventional swimmer who has been at the heart of controversy about her participation in women’s swimming tournaments. Gaies asserted that the NCAA’s handling of the matter compromised the credibility of competitive sports in addition to disregarding justice and meritocracy.

Gaies, a well-known swimmer in her own right, felt that her achievements were eclipsed by the NCAA’s choice to prioritize immunity over athletic prowess. The $50 million settlement supports Gaies and upholds the notion that athletic achievement should be determined primarily by merit.

Gaies expressed her relief and appreciation for the ruling in a statement following the settlement. “This victory is about more than just a military competition,” the speaker stated. It serves as a reminder of the value of justice and honesty in sports, and I hope it serves as a wake-up call for institutions like the NCAA to prioritize these principles moving forward.

Discussions over the place of wokeness in sports and how to strike a balance between inclusivity and competition have been spurred by these rules. Others argue that Gaies’ actions are a part of a broader push to make sports more equal and inclusive, while others have complimented her for opposing what they see as the power of political correctness.

Supporters of Gaies argue that her victory is an example of meritocracy triumphing against ideology politics. They held that athletes ought to be evaluated according to other standards, such as gender or political beliefs, in addition to their achievements and performance. Gaies, a defender of ethics and justice in sports, has contested the NCAA’s ruling.

Gaies’ policies, according to critics, are an effort to buck the trend of greater diversity in sports. They argue that measures like allowing traditional athletes to compete in line with their personal values are crucial to building a more diverse and inclusive athletic environment. By opposing these efforts, Gaies and her followers risk sustaining exclusion and discrimination in sports.

The $50 million settlement serves as a reminder of how complex and sometimes disregarded sports are in contemporary society. Even though sports can bring people from diverse backgrounds together and promote virtues like tenacity and teamwork, they also reflect the broader social and political tendencies of the time.

As the debate over wokeness in sports develops, it is imperative to maintain equilibrium. While diversity and inclusivity are certainly worthwhile goals, they must be carried out without endangering the core values of meritocracy and justice.

Riley Gaies’s victory over the NCAA marks a turning point in the ongoing discussion over what sports are all about. By defending her morals and opposing the statŅs qŅo, Gaiÿes has not only quietly resolved a big dispute but also sparked crucial conversations about the principles that need to govern the sports industry.
