During a recent interview with Democracy Now, Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar strongly criticized the use of U.S. military forces during protests, comparing it to her experience growing up under a dictatorship in Somalia.
“Imagine this: the same week Trump holds a military parade, troops are deployed in Los Angeles to suppress protests. I don’t even remember seeing that in Somalia,” she said.
Her comments have sparked major backlash online. Some call her brave for speaking out, while others accuse her of disrespecting the country that welcomed her as a refugee.
